Event Information and Learning Objectives

Pivoting to Telehealth: Providing effective, ethical and socially valid services at a distance

In this webinar, Dr. Siri Ming draws on decades of experience providing telehealth services to families and clinicians in regions of the world without access to local expertise. Our current situation requires clinicians and families who are new to telehealth, without in-home providers, and experiencing significant stress, to quickly determine strategies that support family and client stability as well as progress. As regions begin to open up to in-person services, hybrid models may continue for some time as providers aim to minimize risk while providing supervision, assessment and treatment.

Dr. Siri will provide a brief overview of potential models for appropriate telehealth provision and considerations for technology use, and will then dive deeper into immediate practical strategies for supporting both new and existing clients. The focus throughout the discussion will be on creating a context for stability and support that is rooted in parent values and that facilitates effective committed action on the part of both families and service providers.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Help clients clarify their values and identify short-term goals for their children in the context of sheltering in place or continued limited in-person service delivery.
  2. Develop plans for supporting stability and client progress based on socially valid, naturally occurring activities in the home.
  3. Support both families and staff in engaging in values-directed committed action.
  4. Consider variables that impact the establishment and maintenance of rapport and therapeutic
    relations when providing telehealth services.
